On the Tuesday night, July 18, episode of NBC’s dance competition “World of Dance,” the Junior Division competitors faced The Cut, in which five young performers competed against each other for two spots in the next round. One of those performers was Eva Igo, a 14-year-old who simply blew us away with her flexibility, stability, and emotional connection to her song, a cover of Radiohead‘s “Creep” by Ember Island. She rose to the occasion and earned a spot in the Junior Division finals, where she and fellow high-scorer Diana Pombo will go head-to-head in hopes of advancing further in the competition. “Our insecurities will always be here, but we have to use them to strengthen ourselves,” said Igo about the inspiration behind her dance. Igo’s performance was so good that judge and mentor Jennifer Lopez rushed the stage to hug and congratulate her. “I’m proud of you,” Lopez added from the judges’ table. Derek Hough told her, “You belong here 110-percent. What I really felt from you this time was much more emotion. Ne-Yo called her “an inspiration to young girls everywhere.” Guest judge Misty Copeland added, “You’re a beautiful soul, a beautiful dancer, and a beautiful performer.”
Unsurprisingly, Igo received the highest score in the Junior Division: 92.5. What did you think of Igo’s performance? Watch her showstopping routine above, and decide for yourself.
