YouTube Red ships off 3 originals in 2017 Emmy FYC mailer, including ‘This is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous’

Emmy voters will be seeing red this year as YouTube Red, the streaming company’s paid subscription service, has officially entered the awards game in a big way. Just as Emmy voting begins, YouTube Red has shipped off its 2017 FYC mailer to the TV academy membership which includes three of its most notable originals: documentary “This is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous,” short form animated program “Paranormal Action Squad” and short form comedy/drama series “Rhett and Link’s Buddy System.”

“This is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous” follows the life of popular transgender YouTube star Gigi Loren Lazzarato. Directed by two-time Oscar champ Barbara Kopple (“Harlan County U.S.A.” in 1976 and “American Dream” in 1990), the project premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January to rave reviews. Matt Fagerholm (RogerEbert.com) said of the film, “There’s a chilling resonance to the moment where Gigi reflects on the legacy of German physician Magnus Hirschfeld, and the Nazis that attempted to silence his groundbreaking advocacy for gay and transgender rights.”

“Paranormal Action Squad” is an animated comedy for adults starring Adam Montoya, Scott Robinson, Nika Futterman, Toks Olagundoye and Evan Fong. Created by Montoya, Hank Stepleton and Michael Rowehe, this eight-episode web series follows a group of unique characters who keep the world safe by fighting off the paranormal.

“Rhett and Link’s Buddy System” stars Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal as fictionalized versions of themselves in the live-action short. They play friends who must go on an amazing adventure in order to take back control of their show “Good Mythical Morning” from their co-ex-girlfriend. Eight episodes aired back in October-November 2016.
