Who do you think gave the best performance at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards? Throughout the night we polled our Twitter followers about each performance, and there were only six that were rated as “great” by more than half of respondents, as opposed to “good,” “okay,” or just plain “bad”: BTS, Janet Jackson, Camila Cabello with Pharrell Williams, Salt-N-Pepa with En Vogue, Shawn Mendes with Khalid and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas choir, and the host of the show Kelly Clarkson. Do you agree that these were the cream of the crop? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
Clarkson got the biggest raves from Twitter fans. As of this writing a whopping 83% say she gave a great performance during her rendition of “Whole Lotta Woman,” which was even more impressive considering that she had already been on stage multiple times throughout the night as emcee.
Viewers were also feeling nostalgic for Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue’s medley, which included “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “Push It” and “Whatta Man.” 77% thought it was a great way to close the show, and so did Clarkson, who couldn’t help but join in at the end of their performance.
Teen stars Shawn Mendes and Khalid weren’t even born when Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue first broke through on the charts, but their performance of “Youth” with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas student choir wowed 67% of Twitter respondents. The performance commemorated the students who were killed at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, this past February, launching a student activist movement for stronger gun control laws.
The globally adored K-pop band BTS was a big hit with the live audience at the MGM Grand Arena where the awards were held. Their boisterous cheers could have damaged your speakers at home if you weren’t careful. The seven-member group performed “Fake Love,” and 58% of online fans loved it. They also won Top Social Artist for the second year in a row, which wasn’t surprising given the intensity of their online fan base.
The legendary Janet Jackson performed a medley of hits (“Nasty,” “If” and “Throb”) before accepting the Icon Award for her lifetime’s worth of achievements in the music industry and on the Billboard charts. 56% loved that show-stopping number.
And 53% of Twitter fans loved Camila Cabello’s performance of “Sangria Wine” with Pharrell and then her breakthrough solo hit “Havana.” The former Fifth Harmony singer won the fan-voted Billboard Chart Achievement Award shortly thereafter.
