A Critics’ Choice Award is next on the horizon for Laura Dern (“Big Little Lies”). The Emmy and Golden Globe winner will smoke the competition at tomorrow’s Critics’ Choice Awards, according to our latest predictions, which give her 1/1 odds of winning Best Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress.
The rest of the nominees — Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Fargo”), Judy Davis (“Feud: Bette and Joan”), Jackie Hoffman (“Feud: Bette and Joan”), Michelle Pfeiffer (“The Wizard of Lies”) and Regina King (“American Crime”) — are all tied at 10/3 odds. King is the reigning champion for the second season of “American Crime.”
Dern is the consensus choice among our participating Experts, Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Adnan Virk (ESPN) and myself, and Gold Derby Editors, including Chris Beachum, Marcus James Dixon, Rob Licuria, Paul Sheehan and Daniel Montgomery.
Dern defeated a near identical field — her co-star Shailene Woodley was up instead of Winstead — at the Emmys. A nominee five years ago for “Enlightened,” Dern has never won a Critics’ Choice Award before. If Winstead upsets her, she’d give “Fargo” its third win in this category after Allison Tolman and Jean Smart.
