‘General Hospital’ leads the 2018 Daytime Emmy nominations with 26, followed by ‘Days’ and ‘Young and the Restless’ (25)

The 2018 Daytime Emmy nominations were announced on Wednesday, March 21, live on CBS’s talk show “The Talk,” and though “Days of Our Lives” led the acting pre-nominations with 20 it was “General Hospital” that led the full list of official nominations with 26 bids including Best Drama Series, which it won last year and has won more times (13) than any other series in Daytime Emmy history. The ABC soap has 11 nominations just for its actors.  Check out the complete list of nominations here.

“Days of Our Lives” wasn’t far behind, though. It followed “GH” with 25 total nominations. including 11 acting bids. That tied it with “The Young and the Restless,” which also earned 25 total nominations, including 10 for acting. “The Bold and the Beautiful” trailed with 18 bids, only 4 of which were in acting races. All four daytime soaps are nominated for Best Drama Series, so does “GH’s” leading haul give it the edge to win the top category? Not necessarily. The Daytime Emmys are judged based on sample episode submissions, which levels the playing field.

The online soap opera “The Bay” was almost a match for its televised counterparts, dominating the digital field with 15 nominations, including Best Digital Drama Series, which it has won for the last two years in a row.

“Sesame Street” is the biggest children’s series with 13 nominations, while “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” is the top talk show with 11 noms. But the women of “The Talk” also had good news to celebrate when they announced the nominees: they earned six including returning bids for Best Entertainment Talk Show and Best Entertainment Talk Show Host.

The awards will be handed out on Sunday, April 29, during a ceremony hosted by Emmy winners Mario Lopez and Sheryl Underwood. Who do you think will win?
