Even with the return of the awards juggernaut that is “Game of Thrones,” HBO was not able to keep Netflix from reaping the most nominations for the 70th Emmy Awards. While the paycaster reaped 108 bids (down from 110 last year), the streaming service earned a whopping 112 nominations. Three years ago, programming on Netflix merited a mere 34 Emmy Award nominations. In 2016, it was up to 56 bids and last year it numbered 91 nominations. Among the big four traditional broadcast networks, NBC leads once again. Indeed, it saw its score rise by almost 20% as it went from 60 to 78 buoyed by the success of “This Is Us.” ABC, CBS and FOX were once again behind the peacock network.
