2018 Emmy reactions: Our readers overjoyed for Issa Rae, but they HATE the snubs of Alison Brie and ‘Will and Grace’

The 2018 Emmy nominations were full of surprises in the comedy races, some better than others. Our forum posters were thrilled for first-time nominees like Issa Rae (Best Comedy Actress, “Insecure”) and Kenan Thompson (“Saturday Night Live”). But they’re crying foul over the snubs of Alison Brie (Best Comedy Actress, “GLOW”), Ellie Kemper (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) and “Will and Grace” almost across the board (no Comedy Series nom, and no regular actors nominated except Megan Mullally).

See some of their reactions below and then be sure to join the discussion to give us your thoughts. And check out the complete list of nominations here.

SEE 2018 Emmy nominations: 50 most unforgivable snubs include ‘Outlander,’ ‘Will & Grace,’ ‘The Good Doctor’

Best Comedy Series

Nominees: “Atlanta,” “Barry,” “Black-ish,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “GLOW,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Silicon Valley,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”

AayaanUpadhyaya: “They finally completely moved on from ‘Modern Family.'”

Marco B: “Get that Comedy Series and save my night, ‘Atlanta.’ It has all the nominations it needs to have.”

Andrew D: “So bummed for ‘Will and Grace.'”

Sasha: “‘Will and Grace’ underperformed and I am devastated because of it … I am deeply disappointed by these nominations.”

SHT L: “‘Barry’s’ nominations are way too much. It’s an okay show that got better as the season progressed but still not funny or that interesting especially compared to ‘Killing Eve’ which deals with similar material and actually provides more laughs for a drama.”

True Tenor: “The bad: Snubs for amazing shows like ‘Dear White People‘ and ‘One Day at a Time.'”

Best Comedy Actor

Nominees: Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”), Ted Danson (“The Good Place”), Larry David, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Donald Glover (“Atlanta”), Bill Hader (“Barry”), William H. Macy (“Shameless”)

Pulp: “I’m so glad Danson got nominated, I just took him out of my predictions though.”

Atypical: “Interesting to nominate Ted Danson without Kristen Bell, or persist on with ‘Silicon Valley’ ad nauseam without Thomas Middleditch.”

True Tenor: “Surprise nods for Ted Danson and Issa Rae were a welcome inclusion.”

Best Comedy Actress

Nominees: Pamela Adlon (“Better Things”), Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Allison Janney (“Mom”), Issa Rae (“Insecure”), Tracee Ellis Ross (“Black-ish”), Lily Tomlin (“Grace and Frankie”)

forwardswill: “Can’t believe no Alison Brie. [And] disappointed for Messing and McCormack.”

SHT L: “I’m more sad about Ellie Kemper and Rachel Bloom getting snubbed again.”

boss: “SAG nominees Marc Maron and Alison Brie are somehow snubbed? I want an explanation.

BenitoDelicias: “Very happy for Issa Rae. That first season snub was ridiculous. Alison Brie should’ve been there.”

Best Comedy Supporting Actor

Nominees: Louie Anderson (“Baskets”), Alec Baldwin (“SNL”), Tituss Burgess (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta”), Tony Shalhoub (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) Kenan Thompson (“SNL”), Henry Winkler (“Barry”)

TVFan365: “Lakeith Stanfield is the only one that was snubbed from the ‘Atlanta’ cast which sucks because he definitely deserved a nomination.”

forwardswill: “Sean Hayes being snubbed is a joke. He should have been winning.”

AayaanUpadhyaya: “Kenan Thompson!!! I’m so happy for him.”

Stegeo: “Burgess is coming for that Emmy.”

ProfessorChaos: “Kenan Thompson has me conflicted. So deserving after all these years, but over the Silicon Valley guys? How’d that happen in a year without Veep?”

Best Comedy Supporting Actress

Nominees: Zazie Beetz (“Atlanta”), Alex Borstein (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Aidy Bryant (“SNL”), Betty Gilpin (“GLOW”), Leslie Jones (“SNL”), Kate McKinnon (“SNL”), Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne”), Megan Mullally (“Will and Grace”)

Trevor Jann: “What is it with comedy supporting actress that makes it prone to 8 nominees?”

forwardswill: “The Emmys love ‘SNL’ too much. Thank god Mullally at least made it. Hopefully she wins due to getting all the ‘Will and Grace’ vote.”

TVFan365: “Happy for Aidy Bryant! I feel bad for Cecily Strong.”

AayaanUpadhyaya: “How the hell does Betty Gilpin become the only acting nominee for ‘GLOW’?”

Phillippo: “I liked most of the nominees besides Leslie Jones/Aidy Bryant.”

vinny: “I am shocked and happy and want her to win in the worst way: Aidy Bryant. Saying that, Kate vs. Laurie will be one to watch.”

Larry Young: “Very happy with the love for ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,’ I just wish Marin Hinkle would’ve taken Leslie Jones’s spot in [Supporting Actress].”
