2018 MTV Movie and TV Awards nominations: Full list of nominees include ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Avengers,’ ‘Stranger Things’ and more

The 2018 MTV Movie and TV Award nominations were announced on Thursday, May 3, in 14 categories, with additional categories and honors to be announced at a later date. The winners will be announced during a live ceremony on Monday, June 18, at the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles, California. And the festivities will be hosted for the first time by comedian Tiffany Haddish, who picked up nominations of her own for Best Comedic Performance and Best Scene Stealer for her breakout turn in “Girls Trip,” which is also up for Best Movie. Scroll down to see the complete list of contenders.

The MTV Movie Awards have been handed out since 1992, but they didn’t start recognizing TV shows until just last year when “Stranger Things” claimed the inaugural award for Best Show. The winners are decided by fans who vote online, but while the nominees and champs tend to skew younger given the cable network’s target demographic, last year they actually presaged some Emmy and Oscar contenders. They nominated “Get Out” for Best Movie long before it was an Oscar nominee for Best Picture, and the victory for “Stranger Things” ended up previewing the show’s 18 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama Series.

Could we see a repeat of that this year? “Black Panther” is the most nominated film with seven bids, including Best Movie, and it’s also one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year, so it could follow in the footsteps of “Get Out” by earning academy recognition despite the Oscars’ usual bias against genre movies.
