Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 23 with final voting set to take place for eight days beginning on Feb. 20. The 90th annual Academy Awards will air live on ABC on March 4 and be hosted once again by Jimmy Kimmel. While most of the guild reveal their winners after the academy reveals its slate of contenders for the Oscars, two are jumping the gun.
The Producers Guild of America holds its annual PGA Awards on Jan. 20 while the Screen Actors Guild presents the SAG Awards on Jan. 21. The former, which has about 7,000 members, uses the same system of voting as the academy to decide the Best Picture winner. By opting for a preferential ballot, the PGA has a good track record at previewing the eventual Oscar winner.
And while SAG has about 125,000 voters, the actors branch of the academy has just 1,218 members who decide the Oscar nominees. The entire academy, which now numbers 7,258, will cast votes for the winners.
