On Friday (Jan. 5), academy members begin casting their Oscar nomination ballots. They only have eight days to decide on their picks for best pic at the Oscars as well as their favorite achievements in their respective branches. During that time, we’ll hear from the directors, cinematographers, costume designers and sound mixers as to their top choices.
Before Oscar balloting began, the art directors, casting directors, film editors, and writers unveiled their slate of contenders while the makeup artists & hairstylists and producers did on the first day of Academy Awards voting. The visual effects wizards announce their nominees on Jan. 15 while the sound editors don’t chime in till the end of the month.
The Australian version of the academy held its international awards in Los Angeles on Friday (Jan. 5) while the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. will reveal the winners of the 75th annual Golden Globes on Sunday (Jan. 7). And the British academy will unveil their roster of BAFTA nominees on Jan. 9.
