The 90th Academy Awards took place on Sunday, March 4 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and was hosted for the second year in a row by ABC’s own Jimmy Kimmel.
As a refresher, this year’s crop of Best Actress nominees were Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water”), Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”), Saoirse Ronan (“Lady Bird”) and Meryl Streep (“The Post”). The five Best Actor contenders were Timothee Chalamet (“Call Me By Your Name”), Daniel Day-Lewis (“Phantom Thread”), Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”), Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) and Denzel Washington (“Roman J. Israel, Esq.”).
As for the featured races, the Best Supporting Actress honorees were Mary J. Blige (“Mudbound”), Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”), Lesley Manville (“Phantom Thread”), Laurie Metcalf (“Lady Bird”) and Octavia Spencer (“The Shape of Water”). And the handful of Best Supporting Actor nominees were Willem Dafoe (“The Florida Project”), Woody Harrelson (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Richard Jenkins (“The Shape of Water”), Christopher Plummer (“All the Money in the World”) and Sam Rockwell (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”).
Among the many Oscar presenters who graced the red carpet were last year’s acting winners Mahershala Ali (“Moonlight”), Viola Davis (“Fences”) and Emma Stone (“La La Land”). Other big-name presenters included Chadwick Boseman, Dave Chappelle, Laura Dern, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Patrick Stewart and Zendaya.
