Sunday night during the Disney-themed Top 10 performance episode of “American Idol,” 24-year-old Ada Vox was shockingly eliminated after singing “Circle of Life” from “The Lion King.” This San Antonio, Texas resident received a surprise visit from her fiance during her rehearsal at Disneyland, which gave her the inspiration to continue on. Unfortunately, America wasn’t as impressed with the drag queen’s performance as judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, so she didn’t make it into the Top 7 after the live coast-to-coast votes were announced. Watch the “American Idol” video above and then read the judges’ comments below.
“You have to know how special this is to have you on this show,” raved Lionel after Ada’s powerful performance. “You are a movement unto yourself. I am so proud of you. Keep it up, my dear. Keep it up. It’s fantastic.”
“I remember your very first audition,” recalled Katy. “You came in, you dropped the mic then, you keep dropping the mic now. But we did talk about making sure that it wasn’t a shtick, that it was really authentic. And tonight I feel like you really embodied Ada Vox.”

In his “American Idol” live blog recap, Denton Davidson wrote, “When the live performance began, Ada looked like a fierce lioness. Ada’s ability to work the stage is unparalleled this season, but I have to say, as much as I love watching her perform, I wouldn’t enjoy it as much without the visuals. Vocally, she tends to veer off key and has a tendency to over-sing.”
