Is Alexis Ren (‘Dancing with the Stars’) the very model of a Mirror Ball champion?

Model Alexis Ren will compete in the upcoming 27th season of “Dancing with the Stars,” which premieres on Monday night, September 24. She’s a superstar on social media, but will that fandom follow her to the dance floor? Let’s consider the pros and cons.

PROS

Models have a pretty solid track record on “DWTS.” Winners Kelly Monaco (season 1), Brooke Burke (season 7) and Nyle DiMarco (season 22) had backgrounds in modeling. And the nature of the profession usually requires you to stay fit. So Ren may have the athletic prowess to keep up with the intense physicality of the competition.

Fan votes determine half the results on “DWTS,” and Ren has a big head start in that regard. She has more than 12 million Instagram followers and more than 1.6 million Twitter followers. If even a fraction of those support her on the show that gives her a powerful built-in voting bloc.

CONS

The glamour of professional modelling doesn’t always translate to the dance floor. Though a few models have won, others have been somewhat stiff on the dance floor and didn’t make it nearly that far, like Antonio Sabato Jr. (season 19), Charlotte McKinney (season 20), Amber Rose (season 23) and Bonner Bolton (season 24). Will Ren be as expressive as she needs to be when performing for an audience?

This is only the third season of “DWTS” for her pro partner Alan Bersten. He was a fan-favorite when he was a troupe dancer and when subbing for injured pros in previous seasons, but his first two outings as a contestant have been mixed: He finished 12th with Debbie Gibson in season 25, and then he finished tied for fourth with Mirai Nagasu this past spring in the “Athletes” season. The latter result was surprising because we thought Nagasu was almost a shoo-in for the finals. So Bersten still needs to find his groove as a pro.
