Forget Juan Pablo! Our readers insist Alexis Ren gave the perfect performance on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Juan Pablo who? The “Dancing with the Stars” judges may have thought actor Juan Pablo Di Pace gave a perfect performance on Most Memorable Year Night, but not our readers. Hundreds of fans responded to our poll after Monday night’s show, and more of them thought Instagram model Alexis Ren was really the class of the field. Did the judges get it wrong?

Ren had arguably the most emotional dance of the evening. She and her pro partner Alan Bersten delivered a contemporary routine dedicated to Ren’s mother, a “DWTS” superfan who died of cancer four years ago. Even without the heartbreaking backstory, contemporary dances typically score higher than other styles since their focus is more on musical interpretation than on a rigid set of steps. But the judges only thought she gave the fifth best performance of the night, scoring her 26 out of 30, but one-third of our readers (33%) put her on top.

Di Pace’s perfect samba, meanwhile, was inspired by 1999, the year he left his home country of Argentina to pursue his show business dreams. Our readers loved that routine too, just not quite as many of them. One-quarter of respondents (25%) agreed with the judges that he was the highlight of the evening.

Together, Ren and Di Pace were favored by more than half of our readers, leaving the other contestants in the dust, though two others were in the double digits. Teenage Disney Channel actor Milo Manheim‘s acrobatic jive earned him 14% of the vote, while “Harry Potter” star Evanna Lynch got 10% for her Viennese waltz. Manheim and Lynch tied with singer Tinashe for the second highest judges’ score of the night (27 out of 30), but perhaps surprisingly only 3% of readers thought Tinashe’s rumba was the best of the night.
