“American Horror Story” scream queen Jessica Lange delivered four Emmy-nominated performances in the early years of the franchise, from a chain-smoking nosy neighbor to a fame-loving collector of freaks. But the performance that “AHS” fans love the most is Sister Jude Martin from “Asylum,” according to the results of our recent poll. A servant of god at Briarcliff, Sister Jude hid her devilish past until it came back to haunt her and she was forced to become a patient at the asylum she once presided over. Scroll down to see how all of the poll respondents voted in our “AHS” poll.
Sister Jude Martin of “AHS: Asylum” is fans’ favorite performance by a whopping 43% of the vote. Supreme witch Fiona Goode of “AHS: Coven” conjured up 32%, coming in a close second place. Neighbor from hell Constance Langdon of “AHS: Murder House” smoked up 18% for a third place showing. And circus star Elsa Mars of “AHS: Freak Show” rounded out the list at only 7%.
The good news for Constance fans is that we’ll see this character pop up again in Season 8, dubbed “American Horror Story: Apocalypse.” This installment, which will debut September 12 on FX, is a crossover between “Murder House” and “Coven” and continues the story of the antichrist that was first introduced as Constance’s adopted child. Lange won a pair of Emmys for her work on “American Horror Story”: Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actress for “Murder House” (2012) and Best Movie/Mini Actress for “Coven” (2014). She was also nominated for “Asylum” (2013) and “Freak Show” (2014).
The actress’s first Emmy victory was for “Grey Gardens” (2009), and she’s also a two-time Oscar champ for “Tootsie” (1982) and “Blue Sky” (1994). Lange’s “Tootsie” performance was recently named the top Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner of the 1980s.
