‘American Idol’ finale: Everything you need to know – start time, song titles, phone numbers for voting

The “American Idol” final airs live nationwide on ABC beginning at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET Sunday, May 20. The Top 3 contestants still in the running for the season 16 title are Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe. Each of this trio of hopefuls will perform three songs on the two-hour show. The first will be in tribute to their hometowns, which they returned to earlier this week. The second will be an encore of a performance that went well earlier in the season. And the third will be their respective winner’s singles. We have done some digging and discovered the titles of these tunes so scroll down if you want to know in advance.

We also learned all the details that you will need to know when it comes time to vote for your favorite of these three finalists. ABC confirms that voting will begin as soon as the show goes live from coast-to-coast. You have until until 6 a.m PT/9 a.m. ET on Monday to finalize your ballot so you can keep rearranging it during (and even after) the show.

There are three ways to cast your ballot — by app, online or via text — and you get 10 votes per method. That limit means you could give your favorite a big boost with a whopping 30 votes in all. To vote via text, all you have to do is send the number of your favorite contestant, as detailed below, to “21523.”

Gabby Barrett: text “14”
Caleb Lee Hutchinson: text “1”
Maddie Poppe: text “10”

You have to be at least 13 years of age and resident in the U.S., Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands to vote either online or via the app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play. There is no age or residency requirement to vote via text.

After reviewing the names of the songs that the three finalists sing, be sure to vote in our poll as to who you think will win season 16 of “American Idol.” And then sound off in the comments section with your thoughts on this ABC revival, including host Ryan Seacrest and judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.
