‘American Idol’ finale: Everything you need to know about the May 21 results show

The winner of season 16 of “American Idol” will be revealed at the end of the May 21 results show. The three finalists are Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe. They will open the two-hour telecast with a performance of “Meant to Be” with Bebe Rexha. This marks a return to “idol” for Rexha. She had been a mentor to the Top 24 and done a duet then with Hutchinson on this song, which was a big hit for her and Florida Georgia Line last year.

Each of the finalists will also get a chance to shine in a duet on Monday’s show with the original artists. Hutchinson is slated to sing “Wagon Wheel” with Darius Rucker. Poppe will perform the Oscar-nominated “Rainbow Connection” with Kermit the Frog. And Barrett will join with “Idol” judge Luke Bryan on “Most People Are Good.”

One of the other two “Idol” judges, Lionel Richie, will sing “All Night Long” with all the Top 10 finalists. The third judge, Katy Perry, will do a duet of on “Part of Me” with Top 7 finalist Catie Turner.

Two of the Top 10, Michelle Sussett and Ada Vox, will collaborate with Patti LaBelle on “Lady Marmalade.” Another, Dennis Lorenzo, will join Top 5 contestant Cade Foehner and Gary Clark Jr. on the latter’s hit “Bright Lights.” Top 7 mentor Nick Jonas will sing “Jealous” with Jurnee who was eliminated on that show. And Top 5 contestant Michael J. Woodard will raise his voice in song once more with Yolanda Adams on “What the World Needs Now.”
