Voting for the Top 3 on “American Idol” kicks off at the start of the live nationwide broadcast on Sunday, May 13. As you will only have until the last commercial break to cast votes for your favorite, it is important you know the three ways to have your say: by app, online or via text.
ABC will let you vote up to 10 times per method for each of the remaining five artists. That cap means you can cast up to 30 votes for each contestant that you want to see continue in season 16. And you can reallocate your votes throughout the evening as the Top 5perform both a Carrie Underwood song and a tune in honor of Mother’s Day. All you have to do is click “save” each time that you change your choices.
You must be at least 13 years of age and resident in the U.S., Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands to vote via the app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play, or online. There is no age or residency requirement to vote via text.
To vote via text, send the number of your favorite contestant, as detailed below, to “21523.”
Gabby Barrett: text “14”
Caleb Lee Hutchinson: text “1”
Cade Foehner: text “8”
Maddie Poppe: text “10”
Michael J. Woodard: text “13”
At the end of this episode, which concludes at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET, two artists will be get the bad news from host Ryan Seacrest that they have been eliminated. That will leave just three finalists to sing in the two-part season 16 closer. For those on the west coast who don’t want to watch live, the show will be repeat in its usual 8 p.m. time slot with a notice that voting is closed.
