Voting for the winner of “American Idol” kicks off at the start of ABC’s live coast-to-coast broadcast on Sunday, May 20. As you will only have until early Monday morning to cast votes for your favorite, it is important you know the three ways to have your say: by app, online or via text.
ABC will let you vote up to 10 times per method for each of the remaining three artists: Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe. That cap means you can cast up to 30 votes for each contestant that you want to see win season 16. And you can reallocate your votes throughout the evening as this trio of talent perform tributes to their hometowns, original tunes and their winner’s singles. All you have to do is click “save” each time that you change your choices.
You must be at least 13 years of age and resident in the U.S., Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands to vote via the app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play, or online. There is no age or residency requirement to vote via text.
To vote via text, send the number of your favorite contestant, as detailed below, to “21523.”
Gabby Barrett: text “14”
Caleb Lee Hutchinson: text “1”
Maddie Poppe: text “10”
While voting in the previous live shows ended during the last commercial break, this time it will continue until 6 a.m PT/9 a.m. ET on Monday, May 21. This extension means that viewers on the west coast who don’t want to tune in live can instead watch “American Idol” in its usual 8 p.m. time slot and still take part in deciding the season 16 winner.
