“American Idol” won’t be back on ABC till next March, but the make-or-break Hollywood Week is being filmed right now. Radio DJ Bobby Bones is working as a mentor to the contestants who made it this far by winning over the three judges (Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie) in one of the regional auditions.
At this stage of the competition, the dozens of contestants are split up into groups of 10 that perform for the panel. From each group, the trio of judge put half of the artists through while the other five are sent packing. In the behind-the-scenes video that you can watch above, Bobby reports on the tension that hangs over the Orpheum Theater.
He reveals that he met with all of the contestants before they had to sing for survival and counseled them to be the best version of themselves and not a pale imitation of an established artist. And he urged them all to get as much sleep as they could, warning them that this would be the most intense week of their lives.
Bones, who just won “Dancing with the Stars,” hosts a self-titled nationally syndicated radio show. He is the youngest honoree ever inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. Forbes dubbed him “the most powerful man in country music” and he is the reigning recipient of both the ACM award for National On-Air Personality of the Year and the CMA award for National Broadcast Personality of the Year.
Stay tuned for “American Idol” spoilers as we learn who made the cut in Hollywood Week.
