‘American Idol’ Top 24 performances: Catie Turner gives a hair-flipping rendition of Blondie’s ‘Call Me’ [WATCH]

Sunday night during the first Top 24 performance episode of “American Idol,” 17-year-old Catie Turner sang Blondie‘s “Call Me” for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. This Langhorne, Pennsylvania resident was told by mentor Bobby Bones to keep singing songs that leave an impression on the audience, and Catie did just that by rocking out to Blondie. Was Catie’s performance good enough to send her through to the Season 16 live shows, which begin April 22 on ABC? Watch the “American Idol” performance video above and then read the judges’ comments below.

“I tell you what, I couldn’t quit watching you,” admitted Luke after Catie’s hair-flipping performance. “I mean, that’s the main thing. That’s what we’re trying to do is to find people that when they walk out we’re just like, ‘Oh my God, what’s she gonna do next?’ You’re quirky and crazy, Catie, but we love you. So good job. And your voice is always there. Your voice never lets us down.”

“What a cool song choice, what an incredible presentation,” said a wowed Katy. “Consistently the sound is growing so incredibly. You’re finding new valleys and hills in your voice that you’re showing us. I just love your whole package, I love who you are, and never change.”

“You know, you were something special when we first saw you,” Lionel reminded Catie. “And now you have taken your style and made us believers in your style. There’s a word called personality that goes along with celebrity, that goes along with a hit record, that goes along with career. You’ve got all of that. When you flipped the hair — What are you talking about? Are you kidding me?!”

The Top 24 artists have been divided into two groups, with the first 12 performing April 8 and April 9. Besides Catie, the other singers in this first group are Dominique, Layla Spring, Dennis Lorenzo, Michelle Sussett, Michael J. Woodard, Trevor McBane, Jonny Brenns, Kay Kay, Brandon Diaz, Gabby Barrett and Cade Foehner. Which artists from this group do YOU think will make it through to the live shows?
