Maddie Poppe won season 16 of “American Idol” over Gabby Barrett and Caleb Lee Hutchinson on Monday May 21. Are you happy with this result? Vote in our poll below and then sound off in our comments section with your thoughts on this ABC revival as well as your opinion of host Ryan Seacrest and judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
After Seacrest announced that Poppe had won this first edition of the ABC version of “American Idol,” she performed her winner’s single: the indie-influenced “Going Going Gone.” That track was released last Friday and has already sold well on on iTunes. But Barrett and Hutchinson have also done well with sales and reviews for their singles: the country-flavored “Rivers Deep” and “Johnny Cash Heart” respectively.
Poppe pulled off an upset over Barrett, who had been predicted to prevail by a whopping 51% of viewers in our overnight poll following Sunday’s final. Poppe had 36% of the total tally while Hutchinson landed in last with an unlucky 13%.
