Israeli mentalist Lioz Shem Tov brought his skills to “America’s Got Talent” during Tuesday’s fourth audition episode where he performed in front of Howie Mandel, Mel B, Simon Cowell and Heidi Klum. The only problem? His “magic” act was actually a comedy routine consisting of household objects like lifting a garbage can lid with his foot or making bubbles disappear in his hand. Were you blown away by Lioz’s comedy illusions like Howie and Mel B? Or would have you have given him an “X” like Heidi and Simon? Watch the “Americas Got Talent” audition above and read the judges’ comments below.
Mel B: “I think you are brilliant. I think you’re funny. I just love everything about you. I wanna say yes, yes, yes! Hilarious.”
Howie: “I’m 100% behind Mel B on this. You are brilliant, you’re a star, you’re funny. I’m gonna give you your second yes.”
Heidi: “I didn’t love the act, honestly. It’s just not my humor. I’m gonna be the party pooper. It’s gonna be a no.”
Simon: “When it first started I thought, this is really stupid. Then I thought, it’s very stupid. And then I thought, no, this was actually really funny.”
When Lioz interjected to say, “This is not comedy,” the audience started chanting, “Put him through! Put him through!” Thus, Simon retracted his “X” and joined Howie and Mel B in sending Lioz through to the next round.
In his “AGT” recap, our live-blogger John Benutty declared, “For his talent, Lioz promised no gimmicks and that ‘everything is real.’ He is a mentalist, practicing in telekinesis, or the act of moving objects with his mind. Humorously he begin his performance with objects known to already move invisibly – bubbles, a tape measure and a pop-up ice cream cone. It was the bubbles that encouraged Heidi to hit her X and falling glitter that prompted Simon to hit his. Mel and Howie however saw the humor in what actually became a comedy act and stood to clap as he pulled tissues from a box and in a grand finale opened a trash can with his foot. It was a YES from both Mel and Howie, but a clear NO from Heidi. That left the decision down to Simon who went back and forth a bit before deciding to send him through with a third YES. Wow … okay.”
