“I have to show the world what I want to be,” said 40-year-old singer Glennis Grace during her “America’s Got Talent” intro video in the Quarterfinals 2 episode. She then took the stage in a black-and-white striped blazer and belted out one of Simon Cowell‘s favorite new songs, “Never Enough” from “The Greatest Showman.” The other “AGT” judges — Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel — were on their feet at the conclusion of her performance, which Simon praised as “a moment.” Do YOU think Glennis will advance to the Semifinals? Watch the “Americas Got Talent” performance video above and read the judges’ comments below.
Simon: “I feel like Hugh Jackman in ‘The Greatest Showman’ when that girl sang the song at that moment. When we talk about people coming onto the live shows and taking it and having a moment, that is what that just was. That was a moment. The fact you put all those key changes into it? I thought, no, you couldn’t get any higher, then you went higher. That was classy, brilliant, fantastic.”
Howie: “I was saying, I told Makayla at the beginning of the show, this is a tough year you’re competing. That was a moment. That was a crazy moment. You know, I looked back, the audience was standing. I have a friend here, Paul Stanley from KISS, lead singer, he just looked at me and he went, ‘Wow.’ I can’t say it better than he just said it. That was a wow moment. That’s what this is about. And I think you brought it.”
Mel: “You know what I love about you? You’re a single parent mother … and you’re doing it all by yourself. You’re taking back your power and you’re owning yourself and you’re showing the world you. You killed it tonight. You brought tears to my eyes. Can I just tell you? Moving forward, don’t wear that jacket ever again. Don’t.”
During his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty wrote, “The third solo singer of the night was Glennis Grace, the act that Simon said during auditions was ‘already a star.’ Also taking on a song from ‘The Greatest Showman’ film with the ballad ‘Never Enough,’ Glennis impressed Simon and Heidi enough for an ovation. I thought she began the performance rather rough and timid, but Simon and Howie both thought it was a ‘wow moment’ for her career. Mel focused on her personal story, applauding her taking back her power as a single mother.”
