The first of two semifinals of “America’s Got Talent” aired on Tuesday night with 11 acts taking to the stage over the course of this two-hour episode. “AGT” viewers voted by the millions overnight for their favorites from this fourth live show of season 13. The results are to be revealed during a one-hour episode on September 5.
Only five of the acts will make it through to the finals which start in two weeks time. The three acts that brought in the most votes will automatically advance while the bottom five will be eliminated. Host Tyra Banks will reveal the three acts that landed in fourth, fifth and sixth place in the popular vote. They are eligible for the Dunkin’ Save, a live vote to take place during the results show. The biggest vote-getter will earn the fourth slot with the judges then choosing between the other two for the final spot.
So which acts earned enough votes to continue on in the competition? Below is our recap of the live results show, which is episode 18 of season 13. Who are you rooting for and who would you be happy to see sent on their way? Be sure to sound off in the comments about the night’s most shocking snubs.
8:01 p.m. – During the recap of last night’s performances we saw clips of Howie Mandel admiring Shin Lim’s hairstyle and delivering tough critiques to both Makayla Phillips and Us the Duo. We also became privy to the questions Mel B asked Howie during the Front Pictures performance as well as the moment when Simon Cowell hit his red X during their act. Lastly, we got to see the genuine, in-the-moment reactions of Heidi Klum and the rest of the panel when Michael Ketterer, Duo Transcend and Zurcaroh delivered their showstopping performances.
8:09 p.m. – The first bit of news we learned tonight was which acts placed 4th, 5th and 6th in last night’s voting and were set to compete for the live Dunkin’ Save over the course of the episode: Duo Transcend, Samuel J. Comroe and Voices of Hope. Two of them will advance to the finals–one via the save and another from the judges’ votes at the end of the episode.
8:11 p.m. – At the start of voting for the Dunkin’ Save, Samuel jumped out to a significant lead with 58% of the vote. Behind him was Duo Transcend, polling with 27%, and then Voices of Hope with only 15%.
8:20 p.m. – Next Tyra called Shin Lim and Us the Duo to center stage to hear their results. Between them, Shin Lim advanced and Us the Duo was eliminated! Wow–I really thought Us the Duo would be there in the finals, but perhaps their judges’ critiques last night were on par with how the audience at home felt.
8:27 p.m. – With only 13 minutes left of Dunkin’ Save voting, Tyra hinted that Samuel J. Comroe was still leading the charge in the Twitter poll. We also saw some clips of the judges having fun backstage playing an emoji game where emojis were used to signify the names of past contestants and then a fun series of jokes involving Howie with a beard.
8:40 p.m. – The next three acts to hear their results were the three solo singers Makayla Phillips, Michael Ketterer and Amanda Mena. Of the three, only Michael earned a spot in the finale while both Makayla and Amanda were eliminated. No surprise there that Michael advanced, but I’m sad to see the two younger female singers go home.
8:42 p.m. – With only Zurcaroh, Front Pictures and Junior New System left, we learned that the third act going straight to the finals was Zurcaroh! Again, not a big surprise there, but a bit bummed that we won’t get to see Junior New System in their heels again!
8:49 p.m. – At this point, Tyra confirmed what we already suspected–that Samuel J. Comroe handily won the Dunkin’ Save and earned his spot as the fourth act advancing to the finale! That meant that the judges were left with a choice to make between Duo Transcend and Voices of Hope.
8:57 p.m. – With only a few minutes to spare, the judges delivered their verdicts one-by-one: Heidi saved Voices of Hope, Mel saved Duo Transcend, Howie saved Duo Transcend and Simon, in all of his dramatics, went to the stage to stand with his choice Voices of Hope. With the judges tied, it came down to America’s vote and that saved Duo Transcend! That makes them the fifth act to advance to the finale and eliminates the children’s choir.
10:00 p.m. – The 11 acts that will perform in next week’s semifinals for their own chance at making the finale are: Daniel Emmet, Aaron Crow, Brian King Joseph, Glennis Grace, Noah Guthrie, Da Republik, Christina Wells, Vicki Barbalok, We Three, Angel City Chorale and Courtney Hadwin.
