After six weeks of auditions, “America’s Got Talent” moves on the judge cuts phase of the competition on July 17. Four episodes of season 13 of “AGT” will be dedicated to culling the acts that received at least three yes votes from the panel: Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel. Each week, this quartet will welcome a guest judge who will help them make these tough decisions.
As with the regular panel, each of the guest judges will get to single out one act for special treatment: the Golden Buzzer that will send them straight through to the live quarter-finals. Those chosen four will join these five previous picks: singers Courtney Hadwin, Michael Ketterer, Amanda Mena and Makayla Phillips as well as the dance group Zucaroh, which was tapped by host Tyra Banks.
Also in contention on the live shows will be the two dozen acts put through during the judges cuts rounds and three wildcards chosen by the producers. In all, 36 acts will compete over the three weeks of quarter-finals every Tuesday and Wednesday from August 14 to 29. Each week, 12 acts will perform with seven making it through to the semi-finals based on a popular vote.
The semi-finals will be live on September 4, 5, 11 and 12. Along with the 21 acts that made the cut in the quarter-finals there will be one wildcard. Each week, 11 acts will perform with five being put through to the finals. The two-part finale will air live on September 18 and 19. On the last night, the top five will be revealed before a countdown to the ultimate winner. Besides bragging rights, the champion act gets $1 million and a a chance to headline at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
