Simon Cowell near tears on ‘AGT’ after teen girl’s emotional rap tribute to her father with ‘Guns Down’

“America’s Got Talent” judge Simon Cowell was moved to tears on Tuesday’s premiere by Flau’jae — a 14-year-old rapper from Savannah, Georgia — who sang a tribute to her late father, Camouflage. While introducing her original song, “Guns Down,” she revealed “my father, who was a rapper, died before I was born so he couldn’t fulfill his dream but that’s what I’m here to do.” Watch her moving performance above

Before raising her voice in song on this first episode of season 13 of “AGT,” this talented teen elaborated on his influence. “When I listened to my father’s music, it inspired me to make my own,” she said. “Tonight I have my father behind me, I’m ready to take over the world.” Cowell certainly concurred with this sentiment. “Even though I don’t know a lot about rap music, I do know talent.” And, he added, “right now I believe we are witnessing the start of somebody’s career big time.”

The curmudgeonly Cowell was so moved by Flau’jae that he sought her out backstage and gave her a hug and more words of encouragement. “This has been my favorite audition by a clear mile today. That was amazing. What you did was so important.”
