“America’s Got Talent” is set to crown its lucky 13th winner on the September 19 results show. The race is too close to call between teen singing sensation Courtney Hadwin and magician Shin Lim. One of them will win the season 13 title, which comes with a $1 million cash prize and a chance to headline at a Las Vegas casino.
Whoever tops the tally of America’s votes will join a winners list of talent that includes last year’s champ Darci Lynne Farmer. This pint-sized singing ventriloquist took time off her nationwide tour to appear on the first live show of this season of “AGT.” She was the the third ventriloquist to win “America’s Got Talent” after Season 2’s Terry Fator, who appeared on the Season 12 finale alongside Farmer, and Season 10’s Paul Zerdin.
Farmer was only 12 when she won the show last September. She was the third tween talent to take the title. Singer-songwriter/ukeleleist Grace VanderWaal was 12 when she was named the winner of Season 11 of “AGT” while singer Bianca Ryan was only 11 when she claimed victory in Season 1.
Simon Cowell‘s 2018 Golden Buzzer act Michael Ketterer is hoping to become the fifth male singer to find favor with the public. While four fellows in a row won — Neal E. Boyd (Season 3), Kevin Skinner (Season 4), Michael Grimm (Season 5) and Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. (Season 6) — it has been seven years since the last of these.
Lim would be the second magician to conjure up a victory following that of Mat Franco in Season 9. Likewise Zurcharoh would be the second dance act to win after Kenichi Ebina (Season 8).
Vicki Barbalok and Samuel J. Comrie is each hoping to become the first stand-up to be still standing when the winner is revealed. The best finish by a comic to date was Preacher Lawson last year, who just missed out on making the Top 5.
Unlike previous years, there is no animal act in this year’s final. The only four-legged contestants to ever win were the Olate Dogs in Season 7.
