Ann Dowd (‘The Handmaid’s Tale’) Emmy episode revealed for Best Drama Supporting Actress [Exclusive]

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Ann Dowd is entering “The Handmaid’s Tale” episode “June” as her Emmy submission for Best Drama Supporting Actress. This installment streamed April 25 and was the first episode of the second season for the Hulu show.

In this segment, Aunt Lydia (Dowd) is livid over the insubordination of the handmaids, telling them they will not be killed at this moment but things could change quickly. While quoting Scriptures she later makes the women hold out rocks while in the rain as a cruel punishment. June/Offred (Elisabeth Moss) rebels against her offer of food. Lydia drags a handmaid into the kitchen, chains her hand to the stove and sets it on fire.

Dowd is the reigning champion for this category and will be up against last year’s guest acting winner, Alexis Bledel, from her same show. First-time contender Yvonne Strahovski is also on the same Hulu program. Others in the category are returning nominees Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”), Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”) and Thandie Newton (“Westworld”) plus rookie Vanessa Kirby (“The Crown”).
