Ariana Greenblatt had to channel the 1940s during her quickstep on “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors” for Time Machine Night, but perhaps she really wanted to embody the 1960s. From her clip package it looked like she was having trouble getting into character to play a ’40s-era model, but after the dance she told host Frankie Muniz that her favorite movie is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and her favorite actress is Audrey Hepburn, whom she was inspired by during her performance. Did she live up to her inspiration? Watch her glamorous performance above.
While training with her pro partner Artyon Celestine and mentor Brandon Armstrong she played dress-up in a mock fashion show to get into character, but I doubt they had to work too hard to get her out of her shell. She has been one of the season’s most expressive and confident dancers — or if she’s not really confident, she sure is faking it well. She even overcame what I thought was an awkward music selection (the 2013 song “Classic” by MKTO), which seemed an ill fit for the style of dance and the era they were trying to portray.
Judge Adam Rippon said, “You are a performer I am here for. That was great.” Mandy Moore thought it was a “very good” routine, and especially difficult because of how much counting is involved in keeping track of the number of steps. And Val Chmerkovskiy simply concluded, “You’re a star.” She didn’t receive her highest scores of the season, but it was pretty close: straight 9s for a total of 27 out of 30, one point shy of Juniors Choice Night when she got a 10 from Rippon. And it earned her a spot in next week’s semi-finals along with Miles Brown, Sky Brown and Mackenzie Ziegler.
