‘Big Brother’ 20 episode 16 recap: Did the Veto save Brett Robinson or Rachel Swindler on August 1? [UPDATING LIVE BLOG]

New Head of Household Bayleigh Dayton has made it clear that she wants Brett Robinson to leave the “Big Brother” house this week, so she nominated him for eviction on Sunday night. Bayleigh also nominated Rachel Swindler, but promised her that she was a pawn and even told her about her secret power app as a way to gain her trust. Did Bayleigh’s plan to send home Brett get one step closer to fruition? Or did tonight’s Veto completely derail her plans?

8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘Big Brother’!” After Kaitlyn Herman was evicted last week, Bayleigh slid her way to the winner’s circle by becoming the next HOH. Even though she nominated Brett and Rachel for eviction, she swore to Rachel that she was just a pawn and that she really wanted Brett to leave. Elsewhere, JC Mounduix‘s sole vote to keep Kaitlyn caused havoc around the house as most people suspected that Scottie Salton cast the rogue vote. Will JC’s move have any lasting effects? Let’s find out!

8:07 p.m. – Following the nomination ceremony, Queen Bay reaffirms that Brett is her target and Rachel is simply a pawn. Brett had a feeling that he would be on the block, but he’s excited to fight for the Veto. Despite being told she’s a pawn, Rachel is still crying in the Diary Room. Her personal game is at risk because of the side of the house she has been loyal to. Will she flip? Rachel tells Kaycee Clark that they have got to work together to get Bay’s mind off of evicting Brett (is that a smart move when she’s the other one on the block?). Meanwhile, Faysal Shafaat tells JC to be grateful that he talked Bay out of putting him on the block. JC is more annoyed than grateful to be asked for gratitude from his friend.

8:10 p.m.Tyler Crispin continues to cover his bases and joins Bay in the HOH room. He tells her that he would like to be chosen to play in the Veto competition. Bay asks him if he has the other power app (he does) but he denies it.

8:15 p.m. – JC goes up to Bay’s room to throw Fessy under the bus. What a jerk! JC is annoyed that Fessy is taking all the credit for Bay changing her mind. Now Bay is annoyed with Fessy and Queen Bay looks poised to go on another power trip. These HOH’s sure don’t think about the long game! Bay goes downstairs and wakes Fessy up and drags him up into her room. She tells him what JC has said. She tells him that now people think he’s controlling her HOH and she doesn’t appreciate it.

8:20 p.m. – Now it’s Rachel’s turn to speak with Queen Bay. She tells Bay that she is uncomfortable with Brett being the target and hopes they can focus on someone else. Rachel says if Brett goes home, then she will become a bigger target. Bay says “nobody thinks you’re a big target.” Haha, okay that was funny. Bay tells Rachel to stop worrying about Brett’s game and now Bay is wondering why she is even protecting Rachel. She tells Rachel she’s bothered by the negative energy Rachel brought into the room. Bayleigh tells Rachel she feels pushed into a corner and she’s about to snap. Bay is losing it! But to be fair, this was a terrible conversation for Rachel to bring up while she’s on the block.

8:25 p.m. – It’s time to pick players for the Veto competition! Bay drew Sam Bledsoe. Rachel drew JC’s name. Brett drew Tyler. Brett thinks it’s the perfect scenario because if Tyler wins he will use the Veto.

8:35 p.m. – It’s time to play the Veto competition! On the sound of a horn, players need to use puzzle pieces to complete the roads of a fake city. They then must deliver the previously evicted houseguests to their destination in a “Goober” car. Whoever completes the task the fastest will win the Veto. Sam was so terrible at the puzzle that the 30-minute time limit expired. JC didn’t look much better, but his Diary Room commentary was entertaining as always. Rachel was clearly frustrated and may have run out of time as well. This may come down to Bay vs. Brett.

8:40 p.m.Rockstar Lantry earns some screen time tonight by announcing the following results of the Veto competition: Rachel timed out at 30 minutes, Bay finished in 14:24, Brett finished in 10:59, JC and Sam both timed out at 30 minutes and Tyler finished in 6:54. Tyler has won the Golden Power of Veto!

8:45 p.m. – Tyler has managed to dupe the entire house into thinking he is on their side. But now Brett and Rachel expect him to the Veto, while Bay expects him to keep nominations the same. To fish for information, Tyler asks if someone has a Power App, who would be the replacement nominee? Bay says it would be Angela Rummans. Tyler then uses some reverse psychology to convince Bay that he is close to Scottie, so if he uses the Veto, Bay will retaliate by putting up Scottie. If this actually works and Tyler somehow walks away without being a target, once again, he will be on the way to playing one of the best games in BB history.

8:50 p.m. – Tyler can easily get blood off his hands by telling Brett and Rachel he can’t use the Veto because he knows Angela (also within their alliance) will be the replacement nominee. If he can actually use the Veto and make Scottie a target, well then, he’s just a baller. Rachel goes up to talk with Bay once again. Things begin with an awkward never-ending hug that ends with Rachel in tears. Then, Bay tells Rachel that Tyler said the only way he would use the Veto is if Bay put Angela up as a replacement. Bay suggests to Rachel that they form an all-girl alliance. Ooo, things are about to get heated!

8:55 p.m. – Rachel is fuming at the idea Tyler suggested Angela go on the block. She runs and tells Angela immediately, but Angela doesn’t believe it. Then, Angela runs and tells Kaycee. Angela and Kaycee both think Bay is up to some sort of scheming lie. No wait, now Angela thinks it is Rachel that is full of crap! Kaycee tells Tyler everything and he furiously denies it. Tyler then approaches Angela, and she tells Tyler she thinks Rachel is lying. Once again, nobody thinks a single bad thought about Tyler. His social game is flawless so far.

8:59 p.m. – Rachel continues fuming to Angela. Then, in her unraveling, Rachel tells Angela about Bay’s power. Angela immediately goes to tell Tyler. But they only think Bay can use the power next week. But now, Tyler is even more scared to use the Veto. He doesn’t want Bay to retaliate and nominate him next week. Easier to just leave the noms the same and send Rachel packing this week? Let’s find out! At the Veto ceremony, Tyler decides NOT to use the Power of Veto. Let this be a lesson to future BB players! If you’re a nominee and the other person on the block begins to unravel, just let them blow up their own game and enjoy the fireworks. If word gets back to Bay that Rachel spilled her secret, it’s probably game over for Rachel. We will find out during Thursday’s live eviction.
