“Big Brother” debuted on Wednesday (June 27) with a two-hour episode that introduced the 16 all-new houseguests. What did you think of this season 20 opener? Is there one contestant that you’re already rooting for to win the $500,000 grand prize on #BB20? And is there another that you can’t wait to see evicted on July 5? Have your say in our poll below and then sound off in the comments section.
The introductions of the houseguests took up the first third of the show. Only then did host Julie Chen reveal that this season’s new games will be based on the idea that technology has taken over the world. She promises “high-tech twists,” “upgraded powers and punishments” and the most “techtacular” competitions ever.
The first competition sees the houseguests head out to the backyard and get into the “BB Supercomputer.” The winner of this competition will have the power to keep eight houseguests safe.
After the BB Supercomputer malfunctions, two groups of eight houseguests each are sent to secret locations and must complete a task to escape. Group one (Angela, Bayleigh, Brett, JC, Kaycee, Rachel, Tyler, Winston) find themselves in the “trash” folder and have to locate hidden files. Angela earned a place in the final competition after finding a specially marked folder while Kaycee was the last to do so and got a punishment. The second group of eight (Faysal, Haleigh, Kaitlyn, Rockstar, Scottie,Sam, Steve, Swaggy C) had to solve a puzzle that spells “Houseguest.” Swaggy won while Sam lost.
The final competition has Angela and Swaggy atop elevated surfboards. The last one standing gets to keep seven other players safe. By avoiding the flying obstacles, Swaggy wins this one. The houseguests had entered the house in groups of four and Swaggy must choose two of these quartets for immunity. He opts for the group he was in alongside Brett, Rachel and Rockstar as well as the group comprised of Faysal Haleigh, Kaycee and Scottie.
That is good news for Kaycee who is being punished. She has to wear a rainbow unitard until the first live eviction on July 5. Whenever the attached pinwheel starts to spin, she must stay in whichever room she is in until it stops.
Sam’s punishment is far more severe. She was removed from the house, with a robot taking her place. Only when she hears “robot offline” will she be allowed to return; conversely, “robot online” will see her exit.
