Normally we’d say never waste perfectly good ice cream, but these are special circumstances. Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep and ice cream joined forces to give us one of the greatest photos of all time on the set of “Big Little Lies” Season 2.
Decked out in a floral top and a black skirt with an ice cream cone in her hand, Madeline (Witherspoon) is strolling down the street behind an unsuspecting Mary Louise (Streep) when she winds up to launch the cone at her head.
And yes, she did throw it. And Abigail (Kathryn Newton) can’t believe it.

Unfortunately, we don’t know if the cone made contact with Mary Louise’s head, but we’re hoping she got her just desserts. Mary Louise comes to town to see her daughter-in-law Celeste (Nicole Kidman) and grandchildren in the wake of the death of her son Perry (Alexander Skarsgard), and she looks to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Did she cross Celeste in some way? Madeline would stand up for her BFF. She loves her grudges, remember? She tends to them like little pets.
Streep joined the Emmy-winning series in January in a part that was written specifically for her — Mary Louise is her birth name. The entire cast from the first season is returning (yes, even Skarsgard), but Andrea Arnold (“Transparent”) took over directing duties from Jean-Marc Vallee.
Season 2 of “Big Little Lies,” which has been in production since March, will premiere sometime next year on HBO, but we must stay thank you now for giving us this instant new meme.
