During Monday’s episode of “The Voice” Season 15, Blake Shelton pitted Dave Fenley against Keith Paluso in a battle to George Jones‘ “I’m a One Woman Man.” Previously in the blinds, Blake used his one and only block to prevent rival coach Adam Levine from acquiring Keith for his team. That storyline came back around during this battle, as Blake decided to keep Dave and eliminate Keith, which opened up the door for Adam to steal Keith for his team. Watch NBC’s “The Voice” battle video above and read the coaches’ comments below.
“It’s like the battle of the beards,” Adam joked when it was his turn to speak. “Dave is way, way more on the country side of things. I think Keith might have been the fish out of water here. The fact that Kelly Clarkson didn’t detect that really is a huge testament to you and also why I think that you’re an interesting one. You can kind of fit in a lot of different places. I’m very taken by you. I also was blocked from picking you on my team, so I hate Blake for that.”
Blake added with a smile, “The reason that you guys are paired together is so I could find out who has the best beard. And side-to-side, now I realize it’s pretty close. It’s the same cut, it kind of comes out with the chin. I don’t know what I’m gonna do.” Blake then said that he wanted to keep Dave on his team because his voice “takes over the room.” That made Keith available for the coaches to steal, and before Keith could even say anything Adam was already hitting his button.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the battle: “In the battle the guys harmonized, but also showcased the many different textures of their voices by ping ponging lines throughout the song. Jennifer noted that the performance felt like a journey of their tricks and Kelly called it a ‘raw and organic’ show. Their coach Blake appreciated that they changed the song from what the original sounds like, but decided to keep Dave on his team because he sees his voice as one that takes over the room.”
