Bobby Bones and Lindsey Stirling (‘Dancing with the Stars’) gave us the MC Hammer cha cha we needed in these trying times [WATCH]

Bobby Bones isn’t known for his technique, per se, but the “Dancing with the Stars” dark horse sure does know how to have a good time. On Trios Night he and his pro partner Sharna Burgess were joined by season 25 runner-up Lindsey Stirling for a cha cha to MC Hammer‘s “U Can’t Touch This” — because why not? Watch their routine above, and vote in our poll at the bottom of this post to let us know if you thought it was the best of the night.

There was a cha cha in there somewhere if you squinted really hard. But when choreographing the routine Burgess clearly knew that mastering the technique of Latin dance wasn’t going to be Bones’s strong suit. So instead she leaned heavily on his fun-loving personality and made sure to get him in some parachute pants. Indeed, when judging the routine Len Goodman said that Bones “nailed” the Hammer part while the actual cha cha was “not so good.” Bruno Tonioli thought it was fun even though the “cha cha got lost in translation.” And Carrie Ann Inaba noted that he didn’t miss a single step, though the quality of those steps left much to be desired.

Inaba and Tonioli gave Bones 7s, while Goodman scored him a 6. That resulted in a total of 20 out of 30. That was the second lowest score of the night — ahead of, who else, Grocery Store Joe — but Burges, Bones and the judges probably know that their success lies with the votes from the viewing audience. He has the kind of infectious enthusiasm that often takes contestants far in the competition, even when they don’t have the scores to back it up. And at least this time he didn’t floss in the middle of the routine.
