Moments before Brynn Cartelli was named the 14th winner of NBC’s reality TV show “The Voice,” the 15-year-old singer rocked out with superstar Julia Michaels. The artists performed “Issues” and “Jump” in front of a live studio audience that included Cartelli’s coach Kelly Clarkson as well as Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys and Adam Levine. Watch Cartelli and Michaels’ “The Voice” performance video above.
At the end of the two-hour finale, Cartelli earned bragging rights as the youngest “The Voice” winner of all time. Thanks to America’s overnight vote and impressive iTunes sales, the Sanford, North Carolina resident was able to beat out tough competitors like Britton Buchanan from Team Alicia and Kyla Jade and Spensha Baker from Team Blake. Michaels started out her career in pop music as a highly sought-after songwriter, ultimately releasing her debut single “Issues” in 2017 to great success. She earned Grammy nominations for Song of the Year (losing to Bruno Mars) and Best New Artist (losing to Alessia Cara). Michaels also served as an advisor to Team Adam’s artists this season on “The Voice.”
During Monday’s live performance episode Cartelli performed a new song “Walk My Way,” which was written by Michaels. Here’s what our “The Voice” live-blogger John Benutty had to say about that original song: “The goal in choosing this song is to set Brynn within the current landscape and to sing about things like first relationships that she and her audience her age are experiencing. The song and Brynn’s performance are both really fun!”
