Monday night on “The Voice,” pop singer Brynn Cartelli represented Team Kelly Clarkson during the live Top 8 episode of Season 14. For this all-important semifinals show, Brynn decided to take on Jackie DeShannon‘s “What the World Needs Now Is Love” in the hopes of scoring another hit on iTunes. “Y’all, I love Brynn,” Kelly smiled after her 15-year-old artist serenaded the crowd. “I know not to bring up her age but it is crazy just how innate everything is in you already at such a young age. And the depth you have. I know people see a little bit of that in the video packages they put together, but they don’t really get to know how deep you are for such a young kid. Your performances are so just epic and beautiful and tasteful. That’s what I love about you. It’s such a sign of a true artist. Vote for Brynn!”
Brynn’s other performances on “The Voice” so far have included “Beneath Your Beautiful,” “…Ready for It?,” “Here Comes Goodbye,” “Unstoppable,” “Up to the Mountain,” “You and I” and “Fix You.” How does “What the World Needs Now Is Love” stack up to Brynn’s other songs? Let us know down in the comments section.
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger John Benutty summarized, “With the arrangement they made an interesting decision to start it off a cappella and slowly build the music up around Brynn’s voice as the song progressed. The effect of that arrangement is that Brynn’s voice is on full display — specifically the richness of her deep register and a nice growl that she brought out to match Andra Day‘s soulful version.”
