Now that Catie Turner has made it to the Top 10 of “American Idol” Season 16, we want to know what YOU think is her best performance so far. From the moment Catie sang an original song — “21st Century Machine” (watch above) — in the auditions she has stood out for her quirky demeanor and excited personality. Catie’s “American Idol” song list also includes “Bad Romance” in the showcase round, “Call Me” in the Top 24, “Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)” as her superstar duet with Andy Grammer, “Take Me to Church” in the Top 14 performance episode, and “Havana” in the Top 14 results episode. Catie admitted during Top 14 week that she’s been receiving hate mail from fans who accuse her of faking her personality. “Some people are mean,” she said before adding that her mother wishes she wasn’t as off-the-wall as she appeared. Upon hearing about the hate mail, “American Idol” judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan immediately came to Catie’s defense.
“I think you are exactly as you should be,” Katy told the Langhorne, Pennsylvania high school student. “I personally know what it feels like to read the comments or to look at the Googles and not feel good, especially if there’s nine great ones and one bad one. My advice continually is don’t scroll down on the comments. You keep giving these haters a job, and they don’t deserve one.”
In our recent video discussion about Season 14, our “American Idol” recapper Denton Davidson noted, “I couldn’t tell if her personality was real or not [at first]. I didn’t know if it was an act but as the season progressed it [became apparent] she’s real. But her quirkiness could actually overshadow the fact that she’s a really good singer.”
In terms of YouTube views, Catie’s original audition of “21st Century Machine” is the most viral video so far at over 3 million views. Next up is “Call Me” with 1.2 million views and then “Take Me to Church” with 1 million views. Which Catie Turner performance is your favorite?
