Chevel Shepherd interview: 16-year-old ‘The Voice’ winner admits ‘I’d love to be a coach!’ [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

“I’d love to be a coach on ‘The Voice’!” admits Season 15 winner Chevel Shepherd in our exclusive video interview. This 16-year-old country singer from Farmington, New Mexico explains that the idea mentoring a young artist in the near future, just like how her coach Kelly Clarkson helped her, would “be really awesome.” Watch Gold Derby’s fun chat with Chevel at the bottom of this post.

Next season’s “Voice” coaches have already been confirmed to be Kelly, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and John Legend, so Chevel might have to wait a few years before she gets to sit in one of the reality TV show’s iconic swiveling chairs. But seeing Chevel on “The Voice,” or another program like it, would be a complete full-circle moment since she’d be following in the footsteps of Kelly, who originally rose to fame by winning “American Idol” back in 2002 … the same year Chevel was born.

Since “The Voice” loves to bring back former contestants as special advisors, fans have their fingers crossed that Chevel will pop in Season 16, due out in spring 2019, to help Kelly’s new crop of young artists. “That would be so cool,” Chevel smiles. During Chevel’s season, Kelly’s former winner Brynn Cartelli was on hand to help the contestants during the semifinals. Brynn then got to perform her new hit single “Last Night’s Mascara” live during the show.

Chevel’s next big performance will be at “the inaugural ball for the governor in New Mexico,” she reveals excitedly. “I’m going to be doing a little concert just to thank my town. And then I’m gonna start working on my album with Kelly soon.”

As for what message Chevel has for her millions of fans, she gushes, “I just want to thank them all so, so much for all of their support and love along this crazy journey. I’m super excited for the future and I couldn’t have gotten here without you guys.”
