Tuesday night during Night 4 of “The Voice” Season 15, country singer Chris Kroeze took on Stevie Ray Vaughan‘s “Pride and Joy” and caused two coaches to turn their chairs around: Blake Shelton and Jennifer Hudson. The Wisconsin native had never flown before recently, but now he could make it all the way to the finale of “The Voice,” raved Blake. Perhaps because of that comment, Chris decided to join Team Blake. Watch NBC’s “The Voice” blind audition video above and read the coaches’ comments below.
Blake told Chris, “Your singin’ is electrifying. You could make it into this finale. Your guitar skills? That was some Ricky Skaggs-type pickin’ right there.” After Chris made his decision, Blake breathed a sigh of relief. “Chris is so talented and an incredible singer. Thank God he chose me. Because it’s still the goal of the other coaches to gang up against me.”
Jennifer was so wowed by Chris’ bluegrass style that was tempted to throw one of her shoes up on the stage as a show of support. But after he decided to join Team Blake, she noted, “It’s tough to steal a country artist from Blake. It’s almost impossible. But JHud came here to work, so y’all better get ready.” Did Chris make the right move in choosing Blake over Jennifer?
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the performance: “Chris Kroeze is from small-town Wisconsin and plays 230 shows a year. He’s a long-haired, bearded country singer who hopes to make his community proud by turning a red chair tonight. Singing ‘Pride and Joy’ by Stevie Ray Vaughan, his bluesy voice sits in comfortably and it’s clear he is a seasoned performer. Blake almost immediately turns around and Jennifer follows suit. A musician of his caliber can easily make the top 10 and it seems like each season we see someone of his ability do just that. Jennifer was so impressed she almost tossed a shoe and is ready to fight Blake for this one. Blake says Chris’ singing is electrifying and he can make it to the finale. Quite predictably, Chris chooses Team Blake!”
