“I left everything on that stage,” said “So You Think You Can Dance” hopeful Cole Mills after his performance in the final round of cuts before the live shows. He was one of the top 10 men of the season, but there were only five slots available for male dancers in the upcoming live shows, so the pressure was on to deliver one last great performance. Watch Mills’s routine above.
Mills specializes in ballroom dance, so in this round he was challenged to dance a duet in a style outside of his comfort zone. So he was paired with “SYTYCD” all-star Jaimie Goodwin for a contemporary dance choreographed by Travis Wall. See what the judges had to say about his performance below.
Nigel Lythgoe: “Cole, there have been occasions when I felt you’ve been a little disingenuous. I did not feel that in any way, shape or form during this routine. Jaimie felt very comfortable working with you … I would have said you were a contemporary dancer. I wouldn’t have said you’re a ballroom dancer.”
Vanessa Hudgens: “You were genuine and authentic. Your partner work was gorgeous. It was just such an honest, beautiful experience watching that, so thank you.”
Mary Murphy: “Cole, I have never seen a trajectory of improvement like the one that you just had. It’s amazing … You had me in the first few seconds.”
Despite being the very first dancer the judges saw during this round, he clearly made a lasting impact because the judges gave him one of those coveted five slots in the live shows along with Evan DeBenedetto, Jay Jay Dixonbey, Darius Hickman and Slavik Pustovoytov.
