Cole Mills is the early front-runner to win ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ but this season is wide open

So You Think You Can Dance” season 15 started its live shows on Monday night, August 6, and since then fans have been predicting who will win this season. The race so far looks like it’s wide open, with our users split 8 ways between the 10 contestants, but the early front-runner is Cole Mills.

As of this writing Mills gets leading odds of 8/5, which translates to a 38.74% chance of prevailing at the end of the season. That’s just slightly better than a one-in-three chance, so he shouldn’t count his chickens before they’ve danced. But he has already impressed the judges with his versatility. The August 13 episode will be the first live eliminations, so we’ll find out them if the audience is just as impressed.

At the ripe old age of 24, Mills is one of the senior-most contestants of the season, and he’s the eldest male competitor. (On the ladies’ side, Chelsea Hough is also 24 and Magda Fialek is 27.) He came to the show specializing in Latin ballroom dance, but in the first show he might have excelled even more outside of his genre than within it. He and his partner Hannahlei Cabanilla performed a paso doble, which was in his wheelhouse, as well as a contemporary routine, which wasn’t his specialty, but it was the dance that judge Nigel Lythgoe actually preferred.

Ranked second in our current predictions is Slavik Pustovoytov with 6/1 odds, or a 14.12% chance of winning. He’s the only hip-hop specialist in the top 10, but the judges raved about both his hip-hop routine and his contemporary routine with Genessy Castillo in the first live show. Jensen Arnold is next with 7/1 odds (12.6% chance of winning), followed by Darius Hickman with 15/2 odds (11.82% chance of winning) and Jay Jay Dixonbey with 10/1 odds (9.5% chance of winning).
