Hip hop group Da Republik from the Dominican Republic returned to “America’s Got Talent” during Tuesday’s Semifinals 2 episode and danced to a mix of “Baby Got Back,” “Hit The Floor” and “Get Ugly.” Unfortunately, the “AGT” judges weren’t in love with the performance and Simon Cowell even hit his red X. Do you think Da Republik has what it takes to advance to the Finals? Watch the “Americas Got Talent” video above, read the judges’ comments below, and then make your predictions before Wednesday’s results show.
Simon Cowell: “I’ll what you what [my X] was about, Tyra Banks. I love these guys and we’ve loved you from day one. For me, the production behind you completely sucked your personality out. I feel like this was a generic routine. It wasn’t special. I don’t think that was good enough to get you through to the Final. I’m really frustrated. I’m sorry, but I’m just speaking the truth.”
Mel B: “Well listen, let’s just focus on the positives. I think tonight you did more tricks and jumps than we’ve ever seen in one performance. So for that, I have to applaud you for that. You know, I kind of agree with Simon a little bit. I feel like you’re a little bit under-rehearsed and the choreography wasn’t up to your kind of par. But having said that, you still came and you still delivered. I just think a tweak of the music, a tweak of the choreography would have been even more amazing. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. So well done.”
Heidi Klum: “I totally disagree with Simon. I never get tired of you guys. I really don’t. I love the mix between the dance and the gymnastics. And I think that you are spectacular, I really do.”
Howie Mandel: “I think that the production and the music and the choreography is subjective. So you may not like something that people at home love. This is why it’s so important that people vote. There were some mistakes. You were better in previous performances. I think that this shows you the pressure that these Semifinals have and how important they are. You can feel the electricity in the room. It’s nerves.”
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the performance: “Da RepubliK is the next act to take the stage. The Dominican dance crew was given a cinematic intro package rather than the typical emotional reel. I’m not sure if that will help or hurt them. Nonetheless, the dancers were full steam ahead once they began dancing. It was high energy and included plenty of acrobatics, but if I’m being honest they aren’t my favorite dancers in this competition. At times I was even bored. Oooh! Just as I said that Simon gave them the red X.”
