Are they? Aren’t they? Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten address their ‘Dancing with the Stars’ showmance

Dancing with the Stars” is as subtle as a Ryan Murphy show, so color us shocked when they came at us hard with a showmance angle with Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten on Monday’s show. So what’s going on between them?

“I mean, we’re just, we’re just so happy to be here and like I love him so much and I love his energy so much and we’ve been so focused on the competition,” Ren demurred to “Entertainment Tonight,” adding that she’s “not answering that” when asked if she sees a romance with her partner.

Bersten wasn’t much forthcoming either: “I feel like the experience is once in a lifetime and we’re just making the most of it and really just going out there and having fun.”

Oh, you guys. Either they do like each other or there is nothing going between them or they’re playing the part for the show. “Dancing” loves a good showmance narrative and feeding content to shippers, especially if a couple might be in danger of going home. It gave us a double whammy with these two, first in the package when a producer asked Ren if she has feelings for Bersten, which she laughed off, and then when the judges, Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews kept harping on their “chemistry.”

For a hot second, it seemed like the end of the road for this (possibly) manufactured showmance, when they landed in jeopardy with DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold. But alas, it was a non-elimination. The showmance can live another day.

“I remember being in there and just feeling and listening to the music and I was like, ‘This is awesome!’ So I’m really excited that we got such a good score and that the judges really praised Alexis,” Bersten said of their foxtrot, which scored a 29. “And that’s why it was really scary [to be in jeopardy].”
