The cast of “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes” was announced on Friday morning, April 13, on “Good Morning America.” This special 26th season of the long-running dance competition series will feature only celebrities from the world of sports, and it will run for four weeks starting on April 30. Find out more about the 10 competitors by clicking through their official cast portraits above.
There are three figure skaters competing on “DWTS” this season. Adam Rippon and Mirai Nagasu both competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang this past February. Together they won bronze medals in the team event, and Nagasu made history by becoming the first American woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics. The third skater in the “DWTS” lineup is Tonya Harding, who was the first American woman to land a triple axel at any competition, but then she became tabloid fodder after an attack on her competitive rival (and season 24 “DWTS” contestant) Nancy Kerrigan.
Two more 2018 Winter Olympians will enter the ballroom. Snowboarder Jamie Anderson is a three-time medalist. At the 2014 games in Sochi she won the gold medal in Slopestyle. Then in PyeongChang she won gold again in Slopestyle and silver in Big Air. And Chris Mazdzer made history in 2018 when he won a silver medal in men’s luge: he’s the first American ever to medal in that event.
Olympic softball player Jennie Finch won a gold medal at the 2004 Athens games and then a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing games. Meanwhile, MLB baseball player Johnny Damon won World Series titles with the Boston Red Sox (2004) and the New York Yankees (2009).
No basketball player has ever won “DWTS,” so this year NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and breakout NCAA college champion Arike Ogunbowale hope to change that. And NFL tight end Josh Norman is hoping to keep the football winning streak alive by becoming the fifth gridiron star to win the Mirror Ball Trophy.
Which of the 10 celebrity athletes do you think will prevail?
