After a short season devoted to athletes, the regular version of “Dancing with the Stars” will be back on ABC this fall. The alphabet network has confirmed that season 27 of ‘DWTS’ will debut on Monday, September 24. It will run for the usual 10 weeks, as opposed to the four that we got for the athletes edition this spring. And with “American Idol” not returning till next year, “DWTS” won’t be short-changed on Monday nights.
The traditional “DWTS” start date got bumped by a week due to the Emmys being held on Sept. 17 over on NBC. While the show and hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were snubbed by the TV academy, “DWTS” reaped six Emmy bids on the creative side: costume design, hairstyling, lighting, makeup, production design and technical direction.
Bergeron and Andrews will be back as hosts as will the three judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. Among the pros, we should see the return of many of the veterans who didn’t dance with the athletes, including Mark Ballas, Cheryl Burke, both Maksim and Val Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd. As for who they will be partnered with, look for the cast of celebrities to be introduced on “Good Morning America” about two weeks before the first episode.
