“Dancing with the Stars” season 27 gets started in just a few weeks on September 24, and “Good Morning America” just made its first official cast announcement. “The Facts of Life” alum Nancy McKeon will vie for the Mirror Ball Trophy, partnered with fan-favorite pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy. What do you think of this pairing? Watch their announcement above,
“He is awesome. He is the most amazing partner, more patience than anybody I know, and I’m so lucky,” said McKeon about her pro partner. The “GMA” hosts teased Chmerkovskiy by pointing out that the 32-year-old dancer was barely even alive while “The Facts of Life” was on the air. The series ran on NBC from 1979-1988, and Chmerkovskiy was born in 1986.
McKeon’s two daughters are especially excited for their mother’s new gig. “They were so supportive,” she explained. “They send me texts every day, and I spoke to them yesterday: ‘Go mom!’ and ‘You can do it!’ They teach me every day … I’m trying to show them that mom can be brave too.”
This is not the first time a “Facts of Life” alum has entered the ballroom. McKeon’s co-star Kim Fields joined the show in season 22 and was paired with pro dancer Sasha Farber. They finished in seventh place, so now McKeon will hope to improve on that result, and she couldn’t have asked for a better partner to try to make that happen. Chmerkovskiy has competed in 13 previous seasons, making the finals 7 times and winning twice. In his last seven outings he hasn’t finished lower than fifth.
However, McKeon is 52-years-old, and the oldest woman ever to win “DWTS” was Jennifer Grey at age 50, so it would be historic if the veteran actress makes it all the way. How do you think she’ll do? And what other celebs do you think will join her in the ballroom? The entire cast for season 27 will be announced on “GMA” on Wednesday, September 12.
