Darius Hickman and Magda Fialek didn’t have much time to rest this week on “So You Think You Can Dance.” After performing in the opening group number they were the first up for the night’s duets. And they got the evening started with a doozy: an action-packed Bollywood routine choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan. The judges unanimously loved the performance, but Fialek will have to hope the viewers appreciate her more this week than they did last week.
Despite a couple of stellar routines in the first week of live shows, Fialek landed in the bottom four when results were announced at the end of the night, even though Hickman was safe. The judges saved Fialek from elimination, sending home Chelsea Hough instead, but will they save her again if she lands near the bottom next week too? Watch Hickman and Fialek’s performance above, and read the judges’ comments about it below.
Nigel Lythgoe: “It’s going to be a great night tonight. I’m still getting over Luther Brown‘s opening routine that I thought was fantastic, and now the king of Bollywood has given us this incredible routine … It’s like a Vegas buffet. There’s so much going on in there, and you’ve got to do everything.”
Vanessa Hudgens: “I just loved how joyous that was. I feel like everyone in this studio has a massive smile on their face because of that routine. You guys were phenomenal. Darius, I love how expressive you are, just wonderful. And I loved, Magda, your hands. There was some beautiful hand work in there. It was gorgeous.”
Twitch: “It’s so celebratory. And what I love about that is it’s moving like 90 miles an hour, and then right when you think you’re done it’s like, nope, we’re going to do one more thing. But with that you still checked in with each other, kept the energy going with it, and we were celebrating with you. That was awesome.”
Mary Murphy: “Thanks for getting that party started tonight. This dance was about throwing paint at one another, and you guys just nailed it. Darius, so much energy, you just looked for the first time — and I know you weren’t — just so relaxed and having so much damn fun. And Magda, wow, you’re like a young schoolgirl all full of love and just having the time of your life in this number. I loved it.”
