Was Domenick Abbate robbed on Wednesday’s “Survivor: Ghost Island” finale? The final vote came down to a history-making tie between Domenick and Wendell Holland, so “Survivor” rules dictated that Laurel Johnson, the non-tied finalist, would have to cast the tie-breaking vote and she chose Wendell. But who REALLY played the best game: Domenick or Wendell? Read our live blog recap to see how it all went down, and then let us know whether you think Domenick was robbed by voting in our poll.
It’s no secret that Domenick and Wendell played similar games in Season 36 of CBS’s long-running reality TV show. Heading into the final tribal council, Domenick had won three individual immunity challenges while Wendell had claimed two. Both men had also found hidden immunity idols during their time on the island and frequently worked together to plan how to use them and who to vote out next.
In the end, five jury members thought Domenick deserved to win (Michael Yerger, Jenna Bowman, Desiree Afuye, Libby Vincek and Chris Noble), while the other five thought Wendell was the better player (Angela Perkins, Donathan Hurley, Sebastian Noel, Kellyn Bechtold and Chelsea Townsend). As the non-tied finalist, Laurel became the de facto 11th jury member and she voted for Wendell.
During the live reunion show host Jeff Probst mentioned how close Domenick and Wendell were throughout their 39 days together. “It was an impossible decision,” Laurel explained about her choice to make Domenick the runner-up of Season 36. “These guys both played a great game, both deserving of being the winner, and that’s what made it so hard. So for me it came down to Wendell’s social game and then our personal relationship.”
Gold Derby’s finale predictions were also split between these two castaways. While most of our readers thought Domenick would win, giving him leading 11/8 odds, Wendell was right behind in second place with odds of 5/2. Watch the preview trailer for Season 37, titled “Survivor: David vs. Goliath.”
