Wednesday night on “The Voice,” soul singer D.R. King represented Team Kelly Clarkson during the third live playoff episode of Season 14. D.R.’s performance of Anderson East‘s “All on My Mind” earned him a spot in next week’s Top 12 thanks to being Kelly’s one and only coach save. He joined Kelly’s other two team members that made the finals: Kaleb Lee and Brynn Cartelli. Are YOU happy that D.R. advanced to the next round? Watch “The Voice” video above.
“D.R., you are seriously so talented, I think people miss it,” Kelly raved about her artist from Strongsville, Ohio. “Not only your range — yes, you can be big, you can be bold — but you get that intimacy too and you get down. It’s just so refreshing to see. For [someone] that goes to award shows all the time, not everybody has that. On the radio, not everybody has that.”
Kelly continued on, “I’m just saying, you’re so talented. I really, really hope America is listening and I hope that they’re voting for you right now.” While Kelly didn’t necessarily get her wish — America voted for Kaleb instead — she chose to save D.R. by picking him as her third team member to advance to next week’s Top 12.
In his recap of “The Voice,” our live-blogger Denton Davidson reported, “D.R. was long considered the top contender from Team Kelly, but song selection continues to be iffy for the powerhouse vocalist. Once again, I just don’t see this song inspiring fans to vote. His voice is incredible, but he’s just not as sophisticated as his direct competitors in the soul department over on Team Alicia.”
